How to transcribe audio for free
Make a free account
Enter your email and open the sign-in link we send. That’s the whole sign-up.
Upload a recording
MP3, M4A, WAV and video all work, up to 60 minutes each. Turn on Recognize speakers if more than one person talks.
Fix what the machine got wrong
Read along with the audio, click a word to replay it, and type over mistakes. Find and replace fixes a name everywhere at once.
Save it
Pick a format and save the file. Downloads cost nothing on Free, and every format is open to you.
Where the free plan stops
When the queue is busy, Free files wait behind paid ones, so a long recording can sit in line on a busy afternoon. Free files delete after 30 days; download what you want to keep.
Translation, Transcribe to English, chat and bulk ZIP export are Unlimited features (fair use up to 720 hours a month). Everything else here works on Free, the editor and speaker labels included.
Free transcription for recordings over an hour
Free refuses files longer than 60 minutes. You have two fair options: split the recording in an audio editor and upload each part, one of your 3 daily files apiece, or buy an hour pack.
Cut at a natural pause, like a change of speaker, so no sentence gets chopped in half. Name the parts in order, part 1 and part 2, so they’re easy to find later. Each part becomes its own file, with its own transcript and summary.
Packs cost 5 hours for $5, 20 hours for $15 or 60 hours for $35. They last 12 months, take files up to 10 hours, and skip the daily file count.
Free, without the usual catches
Some free tools count minutes by the month, cut long files off after a few minutes, or transcribe for nothing and then charge you to download. Our free limits are the ones on this page, and the download is never the paid part.
Free files get the same privacy as paid ones. They’re transcribed on our own GPUs, never sent to any AI company and never used for training. See how other free tools compare on free transcription software.
Who the free plan suits
Think of a student reviewing a weekly lecture, a reporter with an interview or two a day, or a small team that records one standup each morning. If your recordings fit under the length limit and come a few at a time, Free may be all you ever use.
Paying makes sense with heavier use: daily recordings over an hour, a backlog of old files to clear in one weekend, or translation. Compare the options on pricing, take a closer look at the plan on free transcription, or get the basics on audio to text.
