Launching November 2026

Supported languages

We transcribe 100 languages and work out which one you’re speaking. The full lists sit at the bottom of this page, so check yours before you upload.

How the language gets picked

The language starts on auto. Detection listens to the first 30 seconds of speech and uses what it hears for the whole recording.

You can also set it yourself on the upload page. Do that when the first speaker uses a different language from everyone else, or a short clip opens with an English greeting and then switches.

Recordings with more than one language

Each file gets one language. If a meeting moves between English and French, the transcript follows the detected or chosen language, and passages in the other may come out garbled or spelled by sound.

  • When one language dominates, pick it and fix the short passages by hand.
  • If the switch happens at a clear point, split the file there and upload two parts.
  • Need everything in English? Transcribe to English (below) is often the cleanest route.

Getting English from a non-English recording

Unlimited (fair use up to 720 hours a month) has two ways to English text. Transcribe to English is a checkbox on the upload page: the recording is transcribed in the spoken language, then each segment is translated, so the English keeps the original timestamps and speaker labels. Translation works on a transcript you already have and covers the 100+ target languages listed below.

Clean text in other languages

  • Record close to the speaker. Room echo hurts all speech recognition, smaller languages most.
  • Choose the language yourself for short clips. Thirty seconds isn’t much to go on.
  • Fix names and place names the model has never heard with find and replace.
  • Check numbers and dates, which vary in format between languages.
  • Turn on speaker labels when two people trade turns quickly; a mixed conversation gets much easier to review.

Quality differs by language. Widely spoken languages with lots of public training audio come out cleanest; languages with less recorded speech need more hand correction. Try a short file first if you’re unsure.

Single-language pages go deeper. Start with Spanish transcription, or see how video to text handles foreign-language video.

Language questions

Are all languages available on the Free plan?

Yes. All 100 transcription languages work on Free, paid plans and hour packs alike.

Can one file mix two languages?

A file is transcribed in one language. For recordings that switch, pick the main language or split the file.

Why isn’t my language on the translation list?

The list shows only languages that work today. More are planned, and they’ll appear here once they work.

Can I change the language after uploading?

If the wrong language was detected, upload the file again with the right one chosen. The new transcript replaces nothing until you delete the old one.

Do dialects and accents matter?

Strong accents and regional vocabulary can lower quality, as with any speech recognition. Clear audio helps more than anything else, and a short test file shows you what to expect.
