Translate video into subtitles and text
Upload a video and get what people say in it, transcribed and then translated into the language you pick. Download the translation as a timed SRT file to add as subtitles, or read it as a script.

What you get, and what you don’t
You get text: the original transcript plus a translation on the same timing, line for line. That’s what subtitles are made of. There’s no new voice track. We don’t dub, clone voices or change the picture, so the video keeps its original sound and viewers read the translation.
For many videos that’s the better outcome anyway. Subtitles keep the speaker’s real voice, cost nothing to change when you spot a mistake, and can be read by search engines and video platforms.
Think of a product demo shared with customers abroad, a conference talk posted for an international audience, a family video that relatives in another country want to follow, or a training clip for a team that works in two languages.
From a video file to translated subtitles
Add the video
MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM and most other formats work, up to 10 hours and 5 GB on a paid plan.
Check the original transcript
Fix names and jargon in the editor. Speaker labels help viewers follow a conversation.
Translate
In the editor, open Translate transcript, choose a language and press Translate.
Download the SRT
Upload it to your video host as a subtitle track, or import it into your editor.
Adding the subtitles where your video lives
- YouTube: in YouTube Studio, open the video’s Subtitles page, add a language and upload the file.
- Vimeo: the video’s settings have a section for captions and subtitles where you upload the file and set its language.
- Your own site: browsers need WebVTT for the track element, so convert the SRT with SRT to VTT, which never uploads the file.
- Video editors: most import SRT as a caption track you can style and burn in.
Menu names on video hosts change now and then, so treat these as directions, not exact clicks. Every major platform takes a separate file per language, and viewers pick one from the player.
Subtitles people can read in time
Some languages need more words than others for the same idea, and a translated line still has to fit the seconds the speaker took. If a line flashes by too fast, open the SRT in a text editor and split it or shorten the wording. Short segments in the original transcript make for easier subtitles, whatever the target language.
For subtitles in the video’s own language, skip translation: export SRT or VTT straight from the transcript, at a maximum line length you choose. The subtitle generator covers that.
Before you publish, play the video with the new track on and watch a minute or two of the busiest part. A line that lingers past a cut, or a name spelled two ways, is easy to spot that way and easy to fix in the file.
Plan and privacy
Translation is on Unlimited, $20 a month or $10 a month billed yearly, with fair use up to 720 hours a month. Free transcribes video in its original language, 3 files a day up to 60 minutes each, and exports SRT and VTT in that language. Packs don’t include translation. See pricing.
Transcription and translation both run on our own GPUs with open models, so your video’s audio and transcript are never sent to any AI company. Audio-only files are covered on translate audio.
Video translation questions
Can Textspert dub my video?
No. You get translated text and subtitle files. The video’s sound stays as it is.
Can I paste a YouTube link?
Not yet. Upload a video file you have. For your own YouTube videos, YouTube Studio lets you download them.
Which subtitle format do I get?
The translation downloads as SRT. Use SRT to VTT if your player wants WebVTT.
How long can the video be?
On Unlimited, up to 10 hours and 5 GB per file. Free allows 60 minutes and 2 GB per file, without translation.
Does translation work for videos with several speakers?
Yes. Up to 4 speakers are labeled, and each translated line keeps its speaker.
Can I edit the translated subtitles?
Yes. An SRT is plain text, so fix any line in a text editor before you upload it. Keep the timing lines as they are.
