Launching November 2026

Video summarizer for recorded videos

The summary comes from what people say on camera. Upload the file, let the transcript finish, and one button drafts a short summary, chapters with start times and the action items that came up.

How to summarize a video

  1. Upload the video

MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM and other video formats work. Link import isn’t available yet, so use the file itself.

  2. Let the transcript finish

The summary is written from the transcript, so it comes second. When the queue is busy, Free files wait behind paid ones.

  3. Generate the summary

In the AI panel beside the transcript, press Generate summary, chapters and action items. One run makes all three.

  4. Copy or export it

Copy any part in one click, or download the transcript as TXT, DOCX, PDF or JSON with the summary and chapters included.

What one AI summary gives you

PartWhat it contains
SummaryAn overview that grows with the recording, plus key points, any decisions, chapters and action items
ChaptersA title of up to eight words for each change of topic, with the time it starts; click one and playback jumps there
Action itemsEach task someone agreed or was asked to do, with the person and the deadline when the video names them

It all comes from the spoken words, and the model is told to use only facts stated in the transcript. It doesn’t see the picture, so slides, demos and silent footage count only when someone talks about them. A video with no speech, like a music clip, has nothing to summarize.

A sample summary

Sample: a recorded product team call
  1. SummaryThe team reviewed launch readiness and moved the release to the 14th so the help articles can be finished.
  2. Next stepLaunch moves to the 14th.
  3. 00:00Chapter: Where the launch stands
  4. 12:40Chapter: Help articles and pricing copy
  5. 27:05Chapter: New date and owners
  6. Action itemDana: finish the pricing page copy by Friday.

Fix words in the transcript afterward and the panel offers Run again, so the new summary follows your corrections. The sample above is made up to show the format.

Videos people summarize

  • Recorded meetings and webinars, where action items matter most. See meeting transcription.
  • Lectures and training videos, where chapters double as an outline. See lecture transcription.
  • Interviews and episodes filmed for YouTube, where the summary drafts the description.
  • Long talks you want the gist of before you decide to sit through them.
  • Product demos and how-to videos, where the chapters become a table of contents.

Upload only videos you made or have the rights to use.

Long videos and other languages

A long video is summarized in parts, then merged into one summary that follows the video in order. A three-hour recording still yields an overview, key points, chapters and action items in one result.

The summary is in the video’s own language. We transcribe 100 languages, and if you need the words in English, Transcribe to English and translation come with Unlimited (fair use up to 720 hours a month).

Summaries on every plan

Unlimited ($20 a month) adds chat. Ask questions about the video, up to 100 messages a day, and each answer links to the moments it came from.

Where the summary is written

An open language model writes the summary on our own GPUs. Your video and its transcript are never sent to any AI company, and we don’t use them to train models. Read our promises on private transcription.

Treat the result as a draft. A summary can skip a point you cared about or give a side comment too much weight, so read it before you send it on. Names and numbers deserve a check against the transcript.

Video summarizer questions

Is the video summarizer free?

Yes, 3 AI summaries a day on Free, each with chapters and action items for that video.

Can I summarize a YouTube video from its link?

Not yet. Link import isn’t available, so download a video you have the rights to and upload the file.

Does it understand what is shown on screen?

No. It reads the transcript, so it knows what was said, not what was shown.

How long can the video be?

Up to 60 minutes on Free, and up to 10 hours on hour packs and Unlimited.

Can it summarize audio as well?

Yes. Anything you can transcribe can be summarized, from a podcast episode to a voice memo.
